UK interim management firms, compared
Published by getoperators, which places interim and fractional executives and so competes with every firm below. That is why nothing here is ranked by us, every fact about a firm is read from that firm's own website and linked, and the only ranking on the page belongs to the Institute of Interim Management.
The honest answer to “which is best”
Nobody can tell you from the outside, because none of the sites checked for this page publishes audited outcomes: how many assignments finished on time, how many interims were replaced, what clients paid. Without that data a "best" list is opinion. The one independent signal is the IIM's yearly list of leading providers, in tiers of fifteen from Platinum down, as voted for in its annual Interim Management Survey. It reflects survey votes rather than client outcomes, and it is still the only ranking in this market that none of the firms wrote.
Every fact below was read on the firm's own site, and every tier on the IIM’s 2026 list, on 1 November 2026. Each line links to its source.

The thing nobody on this list volunteers
Whether you need five days a week at all. Interim cover is full-time by definition, and a firm that only places interims has no product to offer when the honest answer is fewer days. For a CFO, at the bands this site publishes, full-time interim cover costs £15,333 to £28,750 a month, and the same seat 2 days a week costs £6,133 to £11,500. The monthly comparison for every seat sets both out side by side, with the situations where full-time cover is genuinely the right call.
The second is what the day rate contains. A firm's margin can sit on top of the interim's own rate or inside it, and none of the sites above says which. Ask for the rate you will be invoiced and the rate the interim receives, in the same email.
Where we sit, and where we do not
getoperators is not on the list above and is a different product: a bench where an executive's day rate is visible before you speak to anybody, for fractional and interim seats, with 15% of first-year value due only if you engage somebody, and Operator Search at £2,500 if you would rather somebody ran the market. For a turnaround in a large organisation, a public sector appointment or a seat that needs a firm's network across several countries, one of the firms above will serve you better, and that is what they are built for.
Common questions
How much do interim management agencies charge?
None of the firms on this page publishes its rates or its margin, so the honest answer is what the cover costs. At the day-rate bands this site publishes, full-time interim cover for a CFO runs £15,333 to £28,750 a month, 5 days a week. The agency's share sits inside or on top of that day rate: ask which, and ask for it in writing before the first interview.
Interim manager or fractional executive?
Interim is full-time cover, 5 days a week, for an empty seat or a fixed deadline. Fractional is the same seat held for part of the week, usually 2 days, by somebody who stays for longer. For a CFO the gap is £15,333 to £28,750 a month interim against £6,133 to £11,500 fractional. If the work genuinely fills the week, interim is the right answer; if it needs direction rather than operating, it is not.
More on the difference: fractional or interim, and the executive search firms compared for a permanent appointment.
